The High Mass by Robert Fried. This is a quintessential pothead period piece, done for an art event at the Encore Theater in San Francisco in 1967 for "The Food." Fried, who did many wonderful Fillmore and Family Dog posters as well as non-musical advertising and art prints like this one, was one of a handful of SF artists of the era who brought pro designer sensibilities to the field. Like Victor Moscoso and John Van Hamersveld, Fried's designs have a classical sense of proportion, color and composition. This artifact from the golden age of "head art" has a related piece, "The High Mass is Coming," which preceded this one and promoted the same event. 26.5" x 22" (AOR 2.368)
